Since I discovered the eclectic, genre-defying sounds of Ghostly International years ago, it has become one of my favorite record labels. On July 10th they threw a showcase in L.A. that happened to feature two of my favorite artists on the label, Tycho and Mux Mool, and two others I hadn't heard, Shigeto and The Sight Below. This was the third Saturday after my ACL surgery and I was apprehensive of standing on crutches for so long but the show was too good to pass up. It was held at The Stone Bar in Hollywood, a venue I'd never even heard of. The stage was small, something I always like, giving the whole night a local feel, even though none of the artists were actually from L.A. Not surprising for a Ghostly show, I heard a totally different style of "electronic music" from each act - as well as some live instrumentation from Shigeto and Tycho. Lots of fun. Lots of good tunes. I left with tired arms and wanting ice for my knee but happy I'd gotten to see it all.
